What Causes Persistent Pain In The Knee Post Injury?

I fell and hurt my knee 6 days ago. I thought I had pulled a muscle but now I m wondering if I have a torn ligament as it does not seem to be feeling any better at all. How do I know the difference and what is the best treatment. They does no seem to be much swelling.
