What Causes Personality Disorder In A Person?

Hi I have one very close relative of mine who is having a psychiatric problem but is not able to believe that. Whenever he has this attack; he shouts a lot; abuses his wife; even beats and brings back things from the past and blames everyone; keeps on shouting and blaming his wife. What problem is this?
