What Causes Pinching Sensation In The Skin After A Insect's Bite?

I was bitten by a flying insect, about 1 cm long, black with a red head. The bite caused a pinching sensation in the skin that lasted about an hour. I've experienced the same symptoms twice before without finding the bug, but I'm assuming that is what caused the sudden onset of symptoms. What's can I do about it?
