What Causes Pins And Needles Throughout The Body?

I have been having pins and needles throughout different parts of my body over the past couple of days. It started during Xmas week with very sharp pins and needles (shock like) in my left shoulder which happened several times a day for a week. As well, if I turn my left foot a certain way, a shock like feeling runs up my foot.
