What Causes Popping Sensation In Ear While Burping?

I was told today I have a ruptured ear drum caused by the flu which caused an ear infection. I've never had an ear ache before. I know I have to be careful but I notice a popping sensation when I burp - just a little burp too. Is that continuing to injure my ear? I'm also a musician so this is quite worrisome for me.

Also, I am a classical singer and I am wondering if my singing will also damage the ear drum. Not an abrupt sound or anything, but an operatic one. Thanks for your help!!
