What Causes Pounding Effect In The Back Of The Head?

I experience about 5 to ten seconds of painful pounding in the back of my head freqently when I stand up. It seems to coincide with my pulse, and I can also hear the pounding. I've experienced this for mos tof my life, but it has gotten significantly worse recently
