What Causes Pressure Build Up In The Ears Post Flight Journey?

I recently flew to Vegas and after we landed anything I ate or drank made my ear feel like it was going to explode. Drinking Pepsi or anything carbonated would send me through the roof. Is this a result of pressure changes in my ear from flying? Is there a name for what I am experiencing?
