What Causes Pricking Pain In Eyes?

I m having prickly pains in my eyes. The left eye mostly. It is not frequent, but is becoming more frequent, maybe once or twice a week. It feels a little like those electricity machines a massage therapist uses, and is about a 5 on the pain scale of 1-10. It feels like the pain is right in my eyeball, the front of my eye.
