What Causes Prolonged Back Pain?

I have had occasional back pain over the years,I am a 63 year old female in good shape and have sought help with a chiropractor with success.....in the last year I fell off an 8ft. Ladder in my kitchen and have suffered back pain lately that wii not go away with adjustment.....what could I have injured in my fall? Please advise Debra
