What Causes Prolonged Delay In Periods After Being On Birth Control?

My 17 year old daughter has been on birth control for years. She stopped the birth control about a year in a half ago. She did not have a period for a year so her doctor put her on something to get her started. Witch took a month to get her started and now she has been bleeding gravely for a month and a week. What do we do?
