What Causes Prolonged Eye Floaters And Clouds?

i have eye floaters and clouds or i should say one big smokey cloud and they are in my line of sight.My eye dr. said it tore loose from the back of my eye but it will go away in 2 or 3 weeks but it has been months what could it be? I have to look through the cloud to read or type or watch tv. YYYY@YYYY please let me know.
