What Causes Prolonged Menstruation?

I had prolonged menstruation which lasted for 3 weeks. My OBGYN s first impression was I am polycystic so she advised me to have my ultrasound. When I got my ultrasound the finding was, no evident mass found . What do you think was the cause of my prolonged menstruation? Thank you.
