What Causes Prolonged Spotting Without Actually Bleeding?

Hi doctor ive been bleeding for days but its not heavy n its not light its just like spotting im on birth control the spotting stared a week before my period I havent had my period yet just the spotting sometimes is like pinkish or brownish can u help me plz thank u
