What Causes Pulsating Feeling At The Back Of Head And Ears?

My head has been pounding a lot as if I can feel my heart beat in my head. It happens most of the time but is really bad when I lay down. Sometimes the back of my head, or the top, or near my ears. Its not very painful. Just uncomfortable. What is this?
