What Causes Purplish Patches On The Feet After Standing For A Long Time?

Hello, we have noticed purple patches on the soles of my boyfriends feet, they dont cause him any pain and seem to disappear when he has been standing up for long periods of time they then re appear when he lies down in bed, what could be the cause of this and what is the best treatment? Thankyou
