What Causes Pus Filled Itchy Blisters On The Body?

I recently had a skin irritation that has concerned me. I had a sort of bump appear at the site of a previous insect bite. It became unusually itchy and started oozing a yellowish-clear pus for a few days. The oozing stopped by the time I had my doctor's appointment. The doctor diagnosed me with poison ivy and told me not to bandage the area because I used a non-latex band-aid that irritated my skin. She did not want to give me any medicine and told me that I was wrong about my hypothesis. I had thought it was a bacterial skin infection. She told me that a bacterial infection was definately not present and that it was a mild inflammation. I am concerned that this has been an underestimation of the situation. The area has since recovered to become a 1/4 inch reddish spot, with a few really small other spots surrounding (due to pus contact in the initial stages). The initiation of the oozing began approximately Sunday 10.2.10.
