What Causes Raised Lip Skin Discoloration With Flaking?

I am 67, I noticed new light brown discoloured area on the skin bordering my upper lip. Looked like a tea or coffee stain. In a few weeks it has grown larger and is raised, slight flaking of the skin. Is it just a 'senile wart' or should I have it checked?
