My daughter is 11 months old and has contracted a couple of viral infections from daycare. Her health is otherwise fine. It is Friday evening in Sydney. On Wednesday I collected her from daycare and noticed a rash on her feet, hands and torso. It's a flat pin-prick rash that is not bothering her, she wasn't febrile and was in good (but tired) spirits, but I took her to the GP anyway. GP ruled out Foot & Mouth (which is currently active) and suggested heat rash. Wed night my daughter did become febrile and her temperature hovered just below 40 degrees and she was very unsettled. We helped her cope with ibuprofen. 40 hours later the rash is subsiding and I think the temperature is now under control, but we'll know for sure in 3 hours. What we are left with is a little girl who is very hungry and thirsty and shows interest & willingness to eat & drink, but at the first taste of her regular food & drink, she spits it out. Tries the food again & spits it out again and cries. Her breath has become smelly today, despite cleaning her teeth and using toothpaste. So we are wondering could her breath be another symptom and impact her taste buds. Now that she is febrile, could it be foot & mouth virus? Your advice will be appreciated. Thank you - B.
