What Causes Rashes On Body While On Sulfamethoxazole?

my husband started taking Sulfamethoxazole / trimethoprim a week ago. He did not realize he was to take 2 tabs at one time. He started taking 2 tabs today. He now broke out in a rash all over his body. Can this be a side effects from the medication?
