What Causes Rectal Mucus While Passing Gas?

I have been having rectal mucous for a few weeks. Not in stools, no pain, bowel movements are unchanged. Mucous occurs if I expel gas only. It is clear or yellow, no blood noted. Plan to see my internist this month, but would like to know what possible causes might be.
