What Causes Recurrent Back Pain?

I have had back pain maybe twice a year in the same spot. Thinking its a strain in the intercostal muscles, always comes on after lifting object etc. 30 yr old male 5ft 8 205lbs. . Mid to lower back right side. Two nights I had shooting flank pain accompanying it. New symptom just today is rales or rhochi feeling in the spot where pain he been. Can t find anything relating the strain and rales. Read about costochroditis (sp?). Seems like that is mainly in chest though. Help
