What Causes Recurring Fever, Fatigue And Sweating?

My husband had a cold/flu and was treated with antibiotics and steroids. His fever finally was gone, and then five days later its back, on and off sometimes as high as 102, and then back to normal. He's having severe fatigue and sweats when he's sleeping. We're baffled.
