What Causes Recurring Hiccups?

Hi several times a day i get weird hiccup like gasps. Only one or two at a time. It doesn't seem to be brought on by anythng that i notice...but it most reliably happens a few minutes after I've eaten or drank anything. Its not particularly painful but it is strange. Ive noticed this for several years but its probably been happening for near a decade or so.
