What Causes Recurring Pain In Ankle?

I am having reoccurring pain in the fibula area of my ankle. I was told it could be tendonitis . It is painful to walk or stand. It comes and goes. I was given an anitinflamatory cream which does not help and I have tried Icy Hot and it does not help. Any other suggestions.
