What Causes Recurring Penile Itchy Scratches?

i been with my boyfriend for 5months now having unprotected sex. about 2 wks ago he noticed what looks like a red scrape on his penis which we thought it was just due to not using lube but then about a wk after that i had the same "red scrape" that turned into 5 and its itchy. this morning he has 3 more.. i believe it can be a std but not sure what it is?
