What Causes Recurring Thick Whitish Vaginal Discharge?

HI I m a 19 year old, 103 pound, around 5 1 female. And i had concerns about some vaginal discharge I have been having. Around late December I have seen some whitish discharge kind of like cottage cheese (but none of the other yeast infection symptoms) and it was a small amount. This occurred on and off. Nowadays, it is a pale-ish yellow mashed potato-like consistency and I took an ointment for yest infection since I believed it to be one. Can someone help me figure out what this may be?
