What Causes Recurring Tonsillitis With Hard Phlegm In The Throat?

Hi, I have tonsillitis which I get at least one a month or in this case twice. My throat is now starting to close and the roof of my mouth is caving in at the back. I have some sort of flem stuck half way down my throat and I can t get rid of it I just woke myself up choking. Anti biotics don t work unless they re administered though intravenous. Is there anything I can do while I wait to get them taken out?
