What Causes Red Bump On Back?

I have this red bump on my back the dermantoligist said that it is not cancerous and it can me removed through surgery and its not painful or anything, I just forgot the name of the bump do you by any chance know what it can be or if it will go away by itself or if theirs any non-sergery way to remove it? -Thanks in Advance! -Dominick
