What Causes Red Itchy Spot On Ankle?

I have this big red spot on my ankle. It is very dry and itchy. This spot has been here for months and will not go away. Recently, smaller red spots have been surrounding it on the same ankle and also itch. I was wondering why these don t go away and why it s only on one ankle?
