What Causes Red Marks Around Stung Area On Skin?

My wife is not sure if she was stung or bite by some flying insect. She is 23 weeks pregnant. The is some redness around the area and most of the initial swelling is gone. She just took a shower and the warm water seemed to produce so long red marks on her arm around the bite/sting. Any idea's?
