What Causes Red Spot On Face?

I have a red spot on my face. It's about the size of a pea. I don't think it's acne, because I have used acne cream off and on and nothing has really happened. It seems to be under the skin and looks like something popped maybe? I've seen people with similar spots on their faces as well. I have had it for over a year and can not figure out how to remove it. I've tried various scar creams and acne remedies but none seem to work. What is this and how can I remove it?
