What Causes Red Spots All Over The Body?

My husband had his spleen removed over 20 years ago. Today, while on a trip away from home, he has developed red spots over various parts of his body including in his mouth. One of these popped and bled when touched. He has had a headache and took 6-8 aspirin yesterday. He's calling his local doctor as we speak to see if he should fly home a day early. Could this still be from his spleen issues so long ago? He mentioned he has also had discomfort on that slide while sleeping. Thanks.
