What Causes Red Spots And Flakes On Face?

I have two red ish spots on my face. the skin on them is dry and flakes off ever so lightly. one of them is a little itchy some times. the first one I've had for about two or so years the second one I've had now for about 6 months or so. I was told they are age spots but now I'm worried about them being skin cancer. what do you think the chances are that they are skin cancer?
