What Causes Red Spots In The Pubic Area?

I have raised brown red dots around the pubic area. The first I noticed them is when I had that area hot waxed ( did it myself) I've done this before and never had this happen before. If I prick one with a needle it bleeds. I had it checked out and the doctor said it is nothing to worry about. There seems to be more now. I'm 44 about 140 lbs. and pretty healthy although recently had an abnormal pap which was followed up with more tests. The end results indicated low risk.
