What Causes Red Spots On Chest And Back?

Hello , my boyfriend gets these red spots on his chest, back ,and around the stomach area. he says there not itchy nore do they bother or hurt him. he told me he is allergic to the sun , but i dont think this is why these spots appear?? any answers? what causes it and what is it ... thanks
