What Causes Red Spreading Welts On Muscles?

what would cause a welt that has been spreading is red and very sensitive it started on my middle upper arm last night on my muscle i thought that i got bit by a misquito because i saw one and killed it it started in the middle of my arm this morning and now it is all the way across my muscle almost to my elbow what happed ?
