What Causes Reddish-purplish Spot On Chin?

Last night I looked in the mirror and there was a reddish-purplish dime size spot on my chin. I had been talking on the phone and am not sure if I had rubbed the area or somehow applied pressure. It came on suddenly. There is slight discomfort but very mild.
