What Causes Redness Along With Numbness In Toe?

My pinky toe is red and hurts sometimes like it s almost numb and the nail is cracked slightly, I m not sure if it s my shoes being to small or if it s a fungus because I don t remember ever directly hitting it causeing it to be cracked. What could it be?
