What Causes Redness On Skin After Using Neosporin Ointment?

I beleive I am having a allergic reation to a topical ointment "Neosporin + Pain Relief". It is red, swollen, and has been excreating fliuds almost like a burn or blister would around the area I applied the ointment to. I only used the ointment for 1 day before discontinuing but during that day I applied the cream maybe 5 times, the next day it appeared as if someone gave me a chemical burn. This has been going on for almost 5 days, and the scratch I had it nearly healed, but all around the area is still very irritated and releasing alot of fluids. Does this sound like an allergic reation or something worse??
