What Causes Ring Worm Like Patches Leaving Behind White Areas?

I have an unusual problem. I have what looks like ring worm. The rash is normally round, red patches that are slightly raised around the edges. As they disappear, they leave behind white areas that i am told is vitiligo. All the research I ve done, vitiligo does not start out as a red splotchy area. Help!
