What Causes Scabby Sores On Head Suggest?

Red crusty/scabby sores are occuring on my head....these start off small like a pimple, then get bigger...have one spot that's the size of a quarter now in one area and it doesn't seem to be clearning up....smaller ones are breaking out in other areas....what can be causing this?
