What Causes Sensation Of Having Painful Knot In Stomach?

My son is 13 years old and yesterday he had stomach pains. He said it felt like he had a knot in his stomach but it only bothered him when he sat down. He has been to the nurse 4 times today and now needs picked up from school. What could this be.
