What Causes Severe Chills And Vomiting?

My husband woke up this am with severe chills and his skin and face were very warm to hot. He finally vomited which was liquidy brown with a substance in it that looked like tobacco or possibly coffee grounds. It really looked more like tobacco pieces to me. He has not vomited in the last few hours. He also, recently, has had a brown tongue. He does chew tobacco. Could you advise as to what might be going on? He went to slept for awhile, but was mumbling all the time he was sleeping and moving his hands around.
