What Causes Severe Constipation Along With Loose Bowels Containing Mucus?

I suffer with days of constipation and then have very sudden pain due to the point of passing out, followed by horrendous water like bowel movements. I have lots of mucus in solid feces. I have pain in the left side of my lOwer abdomen. Many thanks
