What Causes Severe Cough After Dialysis?

My husband has problems mostly after dialysis but sometimes for no reason at all he will start coughing and start spitting up white mucus type fluid. He has a chronic cough which is very annoying to him. But his lungs are clear. Is dialysis responsible for this? Nobody seems to know.
