What Causes Severe Cough Along With Deep Gurgling Sound?

My name is Robert W Chandler:
Height: 5' 8", Wt" 180 lbs Activity: Mod, Low History: Back fusion: 2003, sig. colon, 2005, gall Bladder, 2010, Stint Jan. 2015. Complaint: No prior history of this: Woke in the wee hrs. coughing, coughing, etc,etc.... Each cough brought up fluid, not phlem,, much too thin. After 4,5 hrs I tried to talk
to my wife but all I got was a deep gurgle, which cleared up after more coughing, and hasn't returned in a day. I've read up on types of Edema and can't find a close match. I'm considering the ER.
