What Causes Severe Cough Along With Throat Scarring?

When I cough it feels like my throat is getting scraped with a cheese grater, and if I cough for long periods I feel like my throat is scraped and totally raw. I tried to drink orange juice and it stung so bad! So I drank water and Lipton vanilla/caramel tea...plus my throat feels warm to the touch and I keep falling into a fever! I should've had no fever because my brother didn't have one! But when I get sick I always fall into fevers! Is this a common cold or what is it?
