What Causes Severe Hair Fall?

Hi, My wife aged 26yr, is suffering excessive hair fall for last one month.It has never happened in her life earlier. Hair falls from its root.It is not breakage. Still her hair is silky and smooth and no other problem with her health.she is not taking any medicine too. Kindly advise the root cause and its treatment.
