What Causes Severe Hemorrhagic Rash On Calves And Hands Inspite Of Taking Valproic For Dementia?

My husband with AD/ dementia had a serious hemorrhagic rash, severe swelling of feet, calves and hands...thought to be caused by a reaction to drugs. Valproic acid and abilify were discontinued at the same time. Do either of these drugs cause swelling of the extremities? He was placed on Kepra for seizure control (AD related seizure disorder) which had caused aggitation and aggression in the past....he has become more agitated but his rash is subsiding and swelling of hands has resoved.
