What Causes Severe Menstrual Pain With Bloating?

Hi, I'm 39 and since having twins 3 years ago I came of the pill as my husband had a vasectomy so didn't feel the need to be taking it. I suffer with really bad pain when having my period more so when trying to hold in wind and going to no2 I have to hold on to the side of the bath it's that bad. I went to my dr last week and she suggested going back on the pill or the mini pill really don't know what to do??? can you suggest anything? Thanks Karen
